Home Sweet Home in the Pacific Northwest
For those of you who don't yet know, Lauren and Christian will become official residents and new owners of a lovely home in West Seattle at the beginning of July. Lauren just returned from a whirlwind tour of Seattle, hunting for the perfect new home. Yes, Christian trusted her with finding and buying a home; he hasn't even seen it yet in person! She found a great place - a bit smaller than the North Carolina home, but cozy and nestled in a forest next to very friendly neighbors. West Seattle is an up and coming community, and one of the few places in the US right now where the housing market isn't tanking.
We have mortgaged our life away, but we will be happy and comfortable for the years we end up living in Seattle, which will be at least two and hopefully longer! Christian will make the cross country drive in the Audi, arriving in Seattle around June 26. Lauren and Diego will arrive via Southwest Airlines June 29, after a week with Grammy and Grandpa Upton in Texas. Our Subaru will arrive with a hired driver sometime the first week of July. We are more than excited to begin our new adventure, and to finally settle in a home and stop living out of suitcases. We'll officially move into the house after July 4th, and our new neighbors have already begun planning a welcome BBQ for us!
Our last two weeks in Durham will be spent attending good-bye dinners, receptions for Duke Department of Medicine, and the Med-Peds class party this weekend. We'll have just one more Sunday potluck with our wonderful friends, one more ERUUF church service to say good-bye, and one trip to the beach to be with good friends. Sadly, we're getting pretty good at saying good-bye.
